Private Pilot's Licence
Whilst working in Perth for AIB Financial Planning I fulfilled one of my goals - to gain a Private Pilot's Licence.
So most Saturday mornings, from July 1986 to February 1987, I drove to Jandacot Airport, and with the guidance of the Todhunter's at 'Avwest', I became authorised to pilot C150's, PA38's and C172's.
Eventually I decided to leave the piloting to others and allowed my licence to lapse in 1988. No regrets - it was a great experience.
Colour Blindness

I am the eldest of four boys, and we are all Red Green Colourblind. My mother was also Red Green Colourblind, and I understand less than one percent of females are Red Green Colourblind.
However, it is the female that carries the gene which effects males being colourblind or not, and whether the mother is Red Green Colourblind or not, her male offspring will be Red Green Colourblind. Dad was the only one in our family to have normal colour vision.
What about Traffic Lights?
​​Many questions have been asked about Traffic Lights.
In Australia - Easy - when the top light is on, you stop. Bottom light, go.

Exception - 1. Bogota Columbia in the 70's, a number of intersections had an unusual arrangement - One light stand with three bulbs to serve four directions - Green on top for two directions (eg North and South), Red for the other two directions. The bottom light was the reverse of the top light. The middle light was Amber for all four directions. When driving alone - I watched what other drivers were doing because the lights were not too bright, and therefore, difficult to judge whether the dark (Red) light was on or the not so bright (Green) light was on. Fun!

Exception - 2. In the USA many traffic lights are displayed horizontally. Luckily they are big and bright, so when the dark light is on, you stop. When the bright light is on you can go. Easy.
